My journey to being vegetarian.
Growing up in a country where the usual breakfast is fried beef served with egg and rice which is called Tapsilog, beef has became an integral part of my daily meal. Although I also eat other types of meat, beef has always been my all time favorite!
I knew that animals have to be killed for it to get onto our plate. Every time it is served on the table, there's nothing else I think other than finishing it all in my stomach. Until one day when I was traveling, I witnessed an emotional meeting of 2 cows. I still remember hearing this odd loud noise that the cow was making from afar. Several minutes later, we saw another smaller cow running towards her and I must admit that it really got me when I saw how excited they were seeing each other! I just witnessed a mother and child reunion and it was a very touching moment that made me question some of my views.
Dogs and cats are often taken as pets. I'm a dog lover myself so I always care about dogs. When I hear about how they eat dogs in some places, it makes me disgusted and upset. How could they harm an animal like dogs? I love dogs because they are loyal, protective, and sweet. But aren't other animals the same? Maybe if we spend more time with them then we'd see that they have emotions too and they can also make a good pet!
Muslims don't eat pork and Hindus don't eat beef and I eat all of them. What do they think about me then? I know we all have reasons why we do the things we do and most of it is tradition.
Our ancestors used to hunt for food to survive and there's a scientific proof about the nutrients that we can get from eating these other creatures. However over the years, we've also learned to distinguish what's edible and not but none of them has stopped us from following what has been done in the past. Now that we know better about the food that could give equal or even more nutrients then why do we still keep on preying on those animals.
In some countries, they ban how they kill animals in a halal way because according to them, that mode of killing is a torture to animals. Have you watched those videos how they kill the cows we want ? Don't you think they suffer too? The thing is no matter how we kill them, we still kill them and nothing could change that fact.
